Nickel-iron core welding rods are used for welding common cast irons such as gray cast iron, ductile cast iron, and wrought iron. They are also suitable for repairing and refinishing these cast irons, as well as joining them to steel. The deposition process is performed on cold or lightly heated cast iron. This welding rod produces weld metal with higher strength and better resistance to solidification cracking compared to pure nickel welding rods. It is particularly suitable for high-load welds on ductile cast iron and for welding gray cast irons with high sulfur and phosphorus content. Typical applications include repairing pump bodies, heavy machine parts, gear teeth, flanges, and pulleys.
